Donors came together on January 11, 2019 for the blood donation drive held by Aster Hospitals and Aster Volunteers, in association with Dubai Health Authority at Aster Hospital, Al Qusais.
With over 120 registrations, 98 donors from the community and across the Aster group donated blood to help those in need. Each unit of blood collected stand to benefit at least three patients. While the drive focused on donations from A+ and O- blood groups, all blood types were accepted.
A Basic Life Support Training was also conducted by Aster Volunteers which was attended by over 40 people.
Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, CEO, Aster Hospitals, UAE and Specialist in Anesthesia at Aster Hospital, Mankhool said, “Aster Hospitals has been consistently supporting the national blood bank by encouraging to receive safe and regular donations from healthy individuals. Hospitals in the region, including Aster Hospitals, are now consistently undertaking an increasing number of complex surgeries. Several disease conditions including anemia, bleeding disorders etc. are also demanding a continued need of blood and its products. We are committed to bridging any gap and supporting the health care agenda by increasing the frequency of these initiatives through our Aster Volunteers program.”
Among the 112.5 million blood donations collected worldwide, there is with a shortage of approximately 40 million units every year. Closing this gap could mean that several serious medical procedures do not have to be delayed and patient mortality rates could also be reduced.
