His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said: “The Zayed Dialysis Centre is a shining example of synergy between authorities, departments and associations. It also reflects the values inherent in the UAE society. It is an innovative initiative, especially because it delivers an important medical services – dialysis – but with a humanitarian approach, both of which are a priority for DHA.”

His Excellency pointed out that dialysis services have become a real challenge, and DHA continues to modernize specialized departments in its hospitals, in order to deliver the highest level of quality. DHA noted that there will be two specialized dialysis centres: the Zayed Dialysis Centre, which had its foundation stone laid today in Al Twar area, while the second would be in Al Barsha area. This will give DHA the capacity to accommodate all dialysis patients from Dubai and other areas.

His Excellency Al Qutami praised the efforts exerted by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) – both locally and regionally – as well as the positive social impact it has created and the services it provides to serve the people. He also praised the role of the private sector, businessmen and charities that spared no effort in supporting health projects and initiatives. His Excellency said that DHA is open to collaborating with all institutions in order to deliver its on its promise.

H.E. Dr. Hamad bin Al Shaikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, reiterated the keenness of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to continue efforts to stimulate Dubai’s economy and meet the developmental and social requirements, through the 50-Year-Charter that His Highness launched earlier this year. Dr. Al Shaibani reaffirmed the department’s commitment to Article 9 of the 50-Year-Charter to ensure growth in humanitarian work equivalent to the emirate’s annual economic growth.

Dr. Al Shaibani said: “We have learned from His Highness’ vision that charitable work is one of the key ingredients to a happy society, and is indeed one of the ways forward for positive civilized advancement. This pioneering project is inspired by this vision through an effective partnership between government entities and charitable institutions. This partnership helped creating a leading scientific and medical institution, and thus provided medical care to those in need.”

Al Shaibani said: “We always ensure that the humanitarian and charitable projects we support and participate in are sustainable and meet the needs of different strata of the society. With this in mind, we undertake a specialized approach through cooperation and partnership with the competent authorities in every aspect of our projects and initiatives.” H.E. also noted that Zayed Dialysis Center project is in line with Dubai’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially the third aimed at ensuring healthy life and promoting well-being for all people.

The opening of Zayed Dialysis Centre will help reaffirm Dubai’s standing as a major regional destination for medical tourism. The project will be one of the most prominent scientific, medical and therapeutic facilities in the region. It will provide services to patients who require dialysis on a regular basis in accordance with the highest international standards, in addition to dialysis training at home. Up to 30% of the centre’s capacity is allocated, under IACAD’s supervision, to cases from contributing charities. The design and construction of the centre is expected to be completed within 18 months from the date of signing the contract.

The centre will have two floors comprising a total area of 5,339.58 square meters with a capacity of 40 beds. The ground floor of the centre will include 10 beds for cases requiring isolation from infectious diseases, in addition to two rooms related to chest diseases, four specialized clinics, and support services that will include a state-of-the-art laboratory for diagnostics and monitoring of potential complications arising from dialysis. The centre will also include a pharmacy, ambulance services, a nutritional clinic and general administrative services offices. The first floor of the centre will accommodate 30 beds and provide all clinical support services, as well as facilities for the nurses and staff.

Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), announced last July an AED 36.818 million contract to build the Zayed Dialysis Centre. As per the agreement between IACAD and DHA, the centre will have 30% of its capacity allocated to cases from contributing charities – namely Dar al-Bar, Beit Al Khair Society and Dubai Charity – who will be treated for free.

IACAD, as part of its commitment to Article 9 of the 50-Year-Charter, is working on a range of charitable and humanitarian initiatives inside and outside the emirate of Dubai. These include contribution to Mudon Al Khair (Cities of Goodness) initiative, in cooperation with Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme.
