King’s College Hospital London Dubai Lab Receives Accreditation From The College Of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to King’s College Hospital London in Dubai based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

Dr Aaron Han, MD, PhD, FCAP, Consultant and Lab Clinical Director at King’s, was advised of this international recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. King’s Dubai is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“CAP represents the global gold standard for lab quality and continuous improvement. Kudos to the lab team, who worked diligently to achieve this milestone. We are proud of this achievement and will continue to strive to be better for our patients who entrust their lab studies to us,” said Dr Han.

Upon learning of King’s Dubai accreditation, Dr Redha Chief Medical Officer, and Consultant Thoracic & Consultant Gastrointestinal Surgeon, said: “We are delighted to receive the CAP accreditation, the gold standard of lab accreditation for our state-of-the-art Lab at Kings College Hospital, Dubai. It is testimony to the commitment and hard work put in by our Lab team to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. Congratulations to our Lab team for making it happen.”

Shirley Luciap, Laboratory and Quality Manager at King’s Dubai added: “CAP requires having quality measures in place for all phases of lab testing, proper validation and external quality assurance of all test parameters. The inspection process takes a full day and all the lab sections are thoroughly inspected.”

CAP’s Stringent Requirements

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, which begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent than the government’s own inspection program.

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

Commitment to Raising the Quality of Lab Services

“The CAP is pleased to recognize King’s College Hospital London in Dubai as meeting the high standard set as part of the CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program,” said Richard M. Scanlan, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “King’s Dubai joins the thousands of others that are committed to raising the quality of laboratory services nationally and internationally.”

“The CAP congratulates King’s College Hospital London in Dubai on its recent CAP Accreditation,” said, Richard adding that King’s Dubai is committed, as is the CAP, to the constant surveillance of laboratory quality for the benefit of the patient and the physician who treats the patient.”

“King’s Dubai demonstrates leadership, innovation, and a passionate commitment to standards of excellence while providing the highest quality services, ultimately for patients,” noted Richard.
