Skin Cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and affects millions of people all over the world each year including an increasing number of people in the Middle East. Combining a world-class experience with high-quality technology, Dr Dany Touma and his leading team at Skin Experts Polyclinic offer the most advanced treatments for skin cancer.
Skin Cancer comes in many types, the main ones being Melanoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Some of the common signs and symptoms of skin cancer are a changing mole, or a growing lesion that bleeds easily. There are multiple causes for skin cancer, but the most important is excess sun exposure.
Although melanomas can appear on any area of the skin, they often occur within a mole, such as the Dysplastic nevi and Congenital Melanocytic Nevus. According to Dr Touma, the ABCD rule can be used to help notice melanoma in the mole. ADCB stands for Asymmetry – if one half does not match the other, Border Irregularity – if the edges of the mole are ragged, notched or blurred, Color – if the color is not the same all over the mole and Diameter – if the mole is wider than 6 millimeters and growing.
Most importantly Dr Touma and his expert colleagues offer microscopically controlled surgery (Mohs surgery) for challenging cases that are located in delicate areas of the face such as around the nose, eyes, lips, ear or on the legs and arms, or for cases that have recurred after prior treatments. This surgery allows the most precise way to remove cancers under local anesthesia, using immediate microscopic verification of full removal of cancer cells, allowing maximal cure rates and tissue preservation.
Having treated over 5000 cases of skin cancer, Dr. Dany Touma has the largest experience in Mohs surgery in the Middle East and is highly skilled in performing this treatment. He specializes in the cosmetic reconstruction of the skin after the precise removal of the skin cancer.
Most skin cancers can be prevented by wearing SPF and avoiding overexposure to the sun, smoking less, and ensuring frequent check-ups and follow-up examinations are carried out so that it can be detected and prevented early especially in high risk patients.
While surgery is the standard treatment for all types of skin cancer, Dr. Dany Touma and his team specialize in customized state-of-the-art-treatments using lasers, topical chemotherapy and photodynamic therapy, particularly in early stages or when surgery is not suited.
