Emirates Health Services (EHS) has made a groundbreaking achievement by earning the International Standards Organization’s (ISO) 42001:2023 certification for Artificial Intelligence Management System from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), a top British classification entity. This accomplishment solidifies its leading position in AI innovation, making the UAE the global pioneer as the first country in the world to receive this certification from this leading authority.

This milestone marks the culmination of EHS’ dedication to implementing the highest global standards and practices in establishing, implementing, and enhancing the Artificial Intelligence Management System continually. It represents international recognition of its efforts in utilizing, advancing, and overseeing services that leverage artificial intelligence technologies. The announcement of this certification came after a thorough audit and evaluation by Lloyd’s Register experts, verifying adherence to best practices and compliance with international standard protocols (ISO 42001:2023).

Her Excellency Mubaraka Ibrahim, Acting Chief Information Officer at Emirates Health Services, underscored that obtaining thiscertification aligns with the country’s vision, bolstering its strategic priorities and objectives in artificial intelligence. She emphasized that this achievement enhances EHS’ readiness for the future, highlighting the continuous investment in AI technologies and applications within the healthcare sector. EHS’dedication to being a frontrunner locally and globally in adopting these advanced technologies ensures the provision of top-notch healthcare services, enhancing competitiveness at both regional and global levels.

Dr. Amina Al Jasmi, Director of the Radiology Department at EHS, clarified that the pursuit of ISO 42001:2023 certification through the artificial intelligence project in diagnostic imaging is geared towards ensuring the responsible development and utilization of AI systems within EHS services. This global standard provides practical guidance in the fast-evolving technological field, outlining the requirements for implementing AI management systems within organizations. She highlighted the vital role of these systems in advancing the healthcare sector overall and improving the accuracy of radiological imaging in particular.

It is important to highlight that this accomplishment reflects EHS’ continuous efforts to achieve leadership in various organizational areas, adding a qualitative edge to a range of pioneering achievements it has attained over the course of its journey. These include being the world’s first in the healthcare sector to receive institutional accreditation from the Joint Commission International and achieving a 3-star rating in organizational resilience and agility, the highest category, as a distinguished entity in this field, among other noteworthy accomplishments.
